Search beyond the first summary

A passage that seemed unimportant when it arrived may matter after a new claim. The planned search combines exact wording and meaning with issue, date and person context. Earlier classification should not permanently exclude material from later searches, and a useful result should include its source version, surrounding passage and the reason it may matter now.

Read the surrounding context before drawing a conclusion

An isolated sentence may omit a qualification, a reply or a correction on the next page. CourtAhead is being designed to expand promising matches to their surrounding record. Results should include evidence that supports a point and evidence that complicates it. Unreadable pages and low-confidence extraction need to remain identifiable rather than disappearing from the search picture.

From question to next step

  1. 1

    Ask a question

Search for an event, statement, issue or person.

  2. 2

    Read in context

Inspect the surrounding passage, date and original file.

  3. 3

    Use the evidence

Connect relevant material to a question, argument or draft.

Connected work

As your case develops

The planned search experience reaches beyond short summaries. Older material may become relevant when a new claim or request changes the question, including evidence that cuts against your position.

Your decisions

You stay in control

A search result is a lead to review. Missing or unreadable content stays visible, and a matching passage does not prove a claim by itself.

Common questions

Does search only use summaries?

That is not the intended design. Search should reach the complete authorized extracted record, with summaries serving as navigation aids rather than replacements.

Can a search miss something?

Yes. Missing files, extraction gaps and the wording of a question affect what can be found. A lack of results should not be presented as proof that an event did not happen.
